La lumière est une source d'éclairage importante en architecture, permettant de donner vie, d'animer et de valoriser un espace. La favorisation de la lumière naturelle au dépit de l'artificielle est relative à l'intensité, la variabilité et l'infitinité de celle-ci, devenant ainsi la richesse de toute architecture de référence.

La lumière naturelle est une source de vie infinie qui offre à l'architecture une valorisation incomparable tant en terme de confort thermique, visuel ou psychique... C'est la présence et l'absence momentanée de cette lumière qui donne lieu à des variantes spatiales. Le traitement de ce contraste incite donc au travail de l'ombre et la lumière afin d'accompagner et sculpter les formes et matériaux d'un espace. L'ombre et la lumière dialoguent alors, et donnent lieu à des perceptions multiples et diverses de l'espace.
